Animals have told you of strange happenings in the east. You are currently in the North, following along (just off of, in the woods) the "safe road" towards the east. By Tenellia Forest, nice and green. Mild foot traffic on the road.
Old man with wagon running from three men on horseback (bandits, orange arm sash, brown scorpion on it), we save him. Jerry, going to capital Ilandria to sell crops. Bandits are roaming looking for helpless people.
"Strange stuff has been happening in Ilandria, wanting to leave with my family. Ilandria famous for emerald mines (send to Emerald Knights in the Sheath Empire, the king's soldiers, used to have a good reputation), but miners are going missing, townfolk are worried, investigators then went missing."
Gate of the city is undermanned. Town is kinda ghost town.
Mayor Rohm Vunderstout, and a warrior (Sylv, 24 yrs) who ran in needing to see him, whose brother struck out alone towards Estia - young, green cape, can't handle himself, black hair (Jiroh), 12 yrs old.
Entire groups have just not returned. Sven the head miner normally reports.
Rumors of a group of people nearby, hooded figures. Some say the mine's emeralds have magical properties.
No cave-ins, no unusual creatures.
Orange sash scorpion - mark of the Sunstriders, group of bandits that primarily loot in the South
Squirrel saw 2 miners and then a shrouded figure surreptitiously following them in, figure looked same height, humanoid.
2 guards posted at the mine entrance, one is leaning on wall asleep. Both wearing orange arm bands.
We talk them into giving us the guard shift, then enter mine. We follow them.
Accost two guards, knock em out, put em in mine cart. Fragments of ore on ground, barrels (old food rations). Glowstick emeralds.
Four guards come through the door, didn't buy our guard act. Jiroh then runs in and joins the fray.
Jiroh just woke up and was able to cast magic. Sometimes it doesn't go the way it should. Sometimes he levitates, sometimes something completely different happens.
Ton of bandits and a scary lady. Miners imprisoned. Gonna go see.
Human woman with dark skin, dark cloak with green on it, bandit is talking to her. Her name Thea Margrom. She paid bandits - he has 20 silver on him - to keep the miners here to look for something in this mine. Not whole clan of bandits, just a handful. She contracted them to protect her. She reported to someone else.
Letter on her body: "Thea - Go to the Illandria mine and search for more of the reagents we need. Upon doing so, you will be allowed entry into our group - signed [Red Crow Symbol]"
The clearish emerald we found on her. "Pure Ore" - pure emerald with magic potency. Miners didn't find any, but could be some deeper. "It's been a long time since we've used those gems, but they were useful to the blue wizards - to cast magic that we've never used. It's pretty dangerous. The only other place that might have some is the Vesper Mines (southeast, long history), which is collapsed."
Sylv and Jiroh leave us and are going to Estia to the annual festival celebrating the founding of the city. They have a tournament, with a grand gold prize.
Reward from mayor - lots of gold. We sleep at Old Man Jerry's. Wife makes us breakfast.
We go to the local pub and get drinks, meet two new people:
Ravi - Human Fighter, wearing a mask (white, on left side is black bird, maybe a griffin), youngish guy, in chainmail, white cloak that goes over his head as well, from the north. Ex-soldier (Emerald/Jade/Green Knight) from the Sheath Kingdom

Vesper Mines had a different kind of ore, but similar. There was a war fought over that. The mine was used to create magical weapons. War for control of the mine between Orcs and Humans. A battle at the mines caused a cave-in. More of a tomb than anything. A couple days trek to the south, on the other side of the Jagged Peaks (southeast thereof).
The blue wizards, haven't been around for a long time. A tower in the northeast. Rumor that one was spotted in Estia, but almost a myth.
Taking the road to Estia for the festival. We can borrow Old Man Jerry's wagon and drop it off with his son in Estia.
Port city on the east coast bordering the spindle sea. Streets are paved with stone, houses are colorful, there are fruit-bearing trees, lots of decorations for the festival, bustling streets. A fleet of ships heading in from the horizon, probably bringing people and supplies for the festival. Town square has a statue of a woman with a staff, looks old, people treating the statue with reverence.
Statue of Tenellia (prophecy hero), people are thanking her for her deeds. Also a wall with nameplates - memorials for an incident in the town 4 years ago. Men approached the statue looking like they might deface it or were looking for something. The town guards encountered them and many died in the battle. The governor's office handles the tournament. Last year's champion named Hendrik. Individual and team options.
Office is off the main square, stone pillars and then a desk inside, staffed by Ven. We register for individual (Ravi) and group (everyone else). Group prize is super magical item. Single it's a choice between gold or a custom weapon.
Run into Sylv/Jiroh in the square.
History lesson: The current king of Sheath - Artemis, really old, ppl are worried about his failing health. His father was Eris Valor. "The Rift" - an incident which changed the kingdom forever. Eris lost his advisor and queen on the same night. The advisor used the queen as a sacrifice to summon a demon. The Onyx Crystal (group of warriors) saved everyone. Eris wasn't the same man after that - used to be honest and noble - but after that he never spoke to his son, was hellbent on revenge. Heard rumor that the advisor was working with the gnomes, so Eris attacked them. He eventually died, still bent on revenge. Artemis has no known heir.
Tavern (The Dancing Bear), Scented Skunk Magic Shop (north end of town), Inn (The Pelted Goose), Smithy (The Iron Leaf), gambler's hall near the docks and tavern.
Jordy, elven woman, the Magic Shop shopkeep. Kinda a gift shop, toys n such. Some enchanted jewelry, some healing potions.
Convo: Wandering Eye, alchemist guild. Aella is a member. Owner of the magic shop is a member, but Jordy isn't.
